The Bad Versus The Good in Hair Restoration Procedures
The Bad Versus The Good in Hair Restoration Procedures
Whether you’re a man or a woman, experiencing unwanted hair loss can be devastating to self-confidence and self-esteem. There are several options for hair restoration procedures, but not all of them are equal. It’s good to know your options and to know what to look for, so you can choose the right one for you!
Surgical and Non-surgical Hair Restoration Procedures
The “Strip” method is a surgical option for restoring hair that involves removing a strip of hair from another location on the scalp (usually the back of the head) and placed in a location where hair growth is desired. This method requires a surgical procedure, and it leaves a linear scar at the doner site. There can also be tell-tale scarring at the new location, as an incision is required for transplantation of the strip.
The outdated punch extraction method, otherwise known as “hair plugs” is a non-surgical method of extracting larger round patches of hair follicles and transplanting them in locations where hair growth is desired. This method leaves unnatural looking patches (or plugs) of hair in their transplanted locations.
The Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method is a refinement and evolution of older outdated techniques and it is revolutionary! It is the only one we use at Denver Hair Restoration, because it yields the best, most natural looking results. In this method of hair restoration, healthy hair follicles are harvested individually from our patient, and transplanted into their new locations where hair growth is desired. No plugs. No linear scar. Just natural looking hair.
Hair Regrowth, and Healing Success
The procedure itself and all of the implications around it are important, but equally (if not more) important are healing and the long-term results. We are experts at the NeoGraft FUE procedure at Denver Hair Restoration, but at Broadway Plastic Surgery, we also have a full-service aesthetics practice that includes Broadway Skin Essentials. We often combine treatments to aid in the healing and overall results success for all of our patients. For hair restoration, we have found that treating patients with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) topical, immediately after a NeoGraft procedure, and even injection treatments can further aid in the success of the follicle graft. A robust healing and follow-up protocol is important in the success of any procedure.
Dr. David Broadway was the first plastic surgeon in Denver to offer NeoGraft FUE treatments and NeoGraft has continued to be a successful solution to hair loss for his patients for many years. The reputation, experience, training, and skill of your surgeon and your surgeon’s clinicians are extremely important in choosing an FUE provider. Quintuple board-certified surgeon, David Broadway and his team are at the pinnacle of all things aesthetic.
